The Best Of Kevin K - New York, New York...
(ICB14)
I´ve seen Kevin K mentioned quite a few
times, along names like Nikki Sudden, Dave Kusworth, Freddy Lynxx and
Johnny Thunders. Never gotten into his music though, until I found this
in my mail-box. He´s released an impressive bunch of records since he first
started playing the New York scene in the late 1970´s, rocking out with
the best of the best - Ramones, Dead Boys and New York Dolls´ Johnny
Thunders, Jerry Nolan and Sylvain Sylvain. That´s one hell of a cv if
you ask me! Addiction came out last year, with the french The Real Kool
Kats backing him up. And it´s a riff-o-rama of a record, loaded with
trashy themes from the NYC streets, you can almost
smell Avenue D! The Heartbreakers classic, One Track Mind, fits right
in, and with female backing vocal, it´s lifted to a new height. As a fan
of the afore mentioned bands, Kevin K is highly recommended for all
sleazters yearning for a cool melody, excellent song-writing, and just
waiting for the tube to the Bowery.
New York, New York is a best of collection of his solo recordings from
1996 up to 2002, crammed with gems from the class of NYC punk and rock´n
roll. This record has been an instant classic from when I first pushed
play, and if there was justice in love, justice in the music-biz - New
York, New York would´ve been your nighttime soundtrack, baby!
